The
Garden Club is starting the new season with great speakers and a
wonderful field trip. For
those of you that missed the trip to Useppa and Cayo Costa it was a
phenomenal day. Starting at
Pineland Marina we boarded the Tropic Star for a leisurely trip to
Useppa. On arriving at the
island, members took the high path to the museum admiring the quaint
cottages and varied tropical plantings along the way.
The tour of the museum was very informative and covered the
history of the area back to the ice age.
It was interesting to learn that the island is the highest point
in Lee County and also used to be inland.
After the museum we adjourned for a buffet lunch at the Inn.
After lunch the members again boarded the Tropic Star for Cayo Costa.
Upon arrival the tram transported us to the beach for shelling
and beach combing. The
weather was perfect. Sun
shining with a soft breeze off of the Gulf.
Several of us walked over to the lagoon and got a good look at
one of the resident alligators. The day ended with many of us loaded
down with great shell
treasurers to board the Tropic Star and head home.
A great big thank you to Doug Fix for arranging this trip for our
members. The next field trip
is scheduled for March 11, 2010 to the Edison House and includes lunch.
December 10 is the “Garden Club Luncheon with Friends” at Vesuvio’s
celebrating the holiday season. As usual the committee has come up with
a great selection to choose from.
For $20 you have your choice of four main courses with appetizers
and dessert. Bring a gift
worth at least $10 to exchange.
This event is always great fun with lively company.
November’s meeting will be your last chance to sign up for the
luncheon. See Brenda Robinson at the meeting.
A
reminder that if you know of a member that is ill or had surgery, etc.,
notify Pat Rooney so he can send them a card on the Club’s behalf.
Remember to review the Club’s meeting minutes and treasurer’s report on
the website prior to the club meetings.
